One of my favorite yoga instructors, Gus, names the inner voice “your roommate” in your head. He says, “We all have one.” Does “your roommate” provide you support or criticism?
I used to allow my “roomie” to speak in terms of the worst-case scenario. I thought that if anything better than worse case happened, then life was good. I have learned through self-help, education, yoga, and life experience that my inner voice will manifest my outer world.
I now only allow my “roomie” to speak in tones of positivity and encouragement. Gabi Walters, founder of Inferno Hot Pilates, likes to “cancel” thoughts of “less than.” For example, if a negative thought crosses her mind, she will quickly say to herself, “cancel-cancel-cancel.” This is a powerful technique.
I believe that as you train and condition “your roommate” to be loving and uplifting, you are able to gain insight into your dreams and desires. You have the power to transform your life into one of genuine happiness and joy.
I encourage you to see this next month through a lens of self-love and positive inner chatter. Practice “cancel-cancel-cancel” when needed, reframe your thought to what you want, and get ready for great things to happen in your life. My “roomie” needs to be my #1 cheerleader and yours does, too.
Health & happiness,
