What is your purpose in life? As a year ends, I am given the gift of a new year, or what I like to call, “A Chance at a Fresh Beginning.” I see each January as an opportunity to reflect on the last 12 months, both personally and professionally. I ask myself, “What did I accomplish that I am proud of? What happened that I am pleased to be beyond? Am I living my purpose?”
According to Richard Leider, “purpose gives us life.” I believe that purpose gives my life meaning and supports my foundation of health and true joy. Sometimes in life I had to do what I had to do. I did not feel like I had a choice. I have learned that I always have choices. My purpose in life always has the chance to change. It is on me to define my purpose and what I want it to be. As life moves on, my purpose deserves to evolve, change and get an annual update.
Each of us must own our purpose. It is available to everyone. I encourage you to make some time to think about your past year. How purposeful were your last 12 months? Where do you see your purpose playing out in the next 12 months? Change can be exciting and scary. I made a challenging relocation from the Midwest to the South last year. What change might you need to make to live out what you want in life? Change may involve hard work, tough planning and perseverance. It’s worth it and so are you!
As Richard so wisely says, “The good news is, purpose isn’t a luxury reserved for a gifted few but something each one of us already possesses.” Make some time to be quiet so you can listen and hear the answers. Own and live your purpose this next year while enjoying the journey. I will continue to re-purpose my purpose with pride and joy! You deserve to do the same……Happy New Year!
